Business Idea Workshop
Have you got a business idea? Are you thinking of developing it into a business plan or converting it directly into business? If your answers to the above are all “Yes”, please join us in this Business Idea Workshop, which is specially organized for people like you. We have invited a group of experts including a venture capitalist who was a entrepreneur based in US (MBA from the Wharton School), a technology inventor cum technoenpreneur, a business school professor specialized in venture capital research, to listen to your business idea and give you valuable feedback. Meanwhile, you can take this workshop opportunity to learn other entrepreneur friends’ business ideas and get to know your potential business partners.
Note: If you are interested in attending this workshop, you need to submit a half-page brief description of your business idea. This will help ensure like-minded people with similar level of genuine interest and preparedness to participate in this workshop and contribute to the discussions.
You may cover the following points in the description: a) Brief introduction of the product or service to provide (the function, practical problem(s) to address) b) Potential/target customers and how they can benefit from your product/service c) The constraint or barrier you encounter at present
Selected business ideas will be informed to present in the workshop and the panel of judges will evaluate the business ideas and give feedbacks on the spot. The organizing committee will present prizes to the three best business ideas.

Business Idea Judges:
James Jin Chen, Partner, CMHJ Partners, co-founded Hidden Jade Partners; a China focused venture capital fund invests in early stage technology companies. James served as its Managing Director. Prior to that, James was the general manager of OpenTel Communications, a telecommunications company based in San Francisco. Prior to working in the US, James was the sole marketing executive for Eastman Kodak China where he was responsible for five business units. He started his career as assistant marketing manager at SAL travel, a subsidiary of Shanghai Airlines.
James advises a number of start-ups, and lectures at Technopreneurship and Innovation Program, a Master of Science program at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore
He received a BA from Shanghai International Studies University, an MS in Computer Science from California State University, Hayward, and an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
Dr.Jerry Cao is Assistant Professor of Finance at the Singapore Management University and the founder of Asian VC & PE Institute, a research and consulting organization for Private Equity Investment in Asia. Jerry’s research interests span empirical corporate finance and private equity. One of the key questions he addresses is the role private equity firms in LBOs and RLBOs. His research articles have been published in top finance journals such as the Journal of Financial Economics and the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and his studies on private equity have been widely cited by the Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Forbes, and other financial journals. He is a member of the American Finance Association and the Western Finance Association. Jerry holds a B.A. in Economics from HUST, an M.A. in Economics from the University of Western Ontario, and a Ph.D. in Finance from Boston College.
Dr Xie Ming, is an Associate Professor at Nanyang Technological University, Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Humanoid Robotics (Indexed by SCI/SCIE), Associate Editor of IEEE Transaction on Autonomous Mental Development, and Director of private companies. He has served as technical consultants to several renowned companies in Asia. He has also worked with Renault Automation (Paris/France) in 1986, IRISA-INRIA between 1986 and 1989, INRIA Sophia-Antipolis (Nice/France) between 1990 and 1993, and Singapore-MIT Alliance between 2000 and 2004
Xie Ming obtained his B.Eng in the field of control and automation in 1984. At the same year, he was selected as one of Chinese government’s overseas scholars. Thereafter, he obtained the Master degree in the field of industrial automation from the University of Valenciennes (France) in 1986, and the Ph.D degree in the field of informatics from the University of Rennes (France) in 1989.
